The University of Oklahoma School of Music has a rich history in the study of music theory. The Gail Boyd de Stwolinski Center for Music Theory Pedagogy, which supports the production of the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, was established in 1985 at OU to provide a national clearinghouse for the collection and dissemination of information concerning the teaching and learning of music theory. OU’s music theory students study in an environment that involves direct, one-to-one mentorship by an academic faculty with a wide-range of scholarly interests, including music theory pedagogy, history of music theory, Schenkerian analysis, 20th century compositional techniques, semiotics, aesthetics and more. The faculty encourages students to engage in similarly diverse subjects Visit the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy |
