The Department of Percussion Studies at the University of Oklahoma is one of the most highly acclaimed percussion programs in the United States. Recognized for excellence in the areas of pedagogy, performance, recording, commissioning and publishing, the program offers students the opportunity to study with some of the most outstanding teachers/artists in the field. Student musicians also enjoy access to the largest inventory of percussion instruments in Oklahoma, including an extended range of marimbas and the state’s only collegiate steel drum band. Catlett Music Center’s exceptional percussion suite also includes two large rehearsal studios, MIDI and recording facilities and five practice rooms exclusively for percussion students. Furthermore, percussion students enjoy many outstanding performance opportunities. Among the ensembles available to percussion students are the renowned OU Percussion Orchestra, Steel Drum Band, Marimba Band, the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band, the OU Wind Symphony, two concert bands, the OU Symphony Orchestra, two jazz ensembles and a variety of athletic bands.

OU percussion graduates are recognized as some of the best in the field and are highly sought for professional performance and academic positions throughout the country.
