The University of Oklahoma Woodwind Department offers students the exceptional opportunity of studying with a full-time professor specializing in the full complement of woodwind instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and saxophone. The University of Oklahoma is the only institute in the state to have full time professors for each woodwind instrument, and these extraordinary faculty/artists are all active in the fields of performance and education. At the University of Oklahoma performance is an integral part of music education, and woodwind students have ample performance opportunities to help prepare them for their future careers. In addition to the large ensembles, such as the OU Symphony, students may participate in a number of special interest ensembles, such as the Flute Ensemble, the Double Reed Ensemble, the New Century Ensemble, the Clarinet Choir, the Sooner Bassooners, and the Saxophone Quartet. Select students may also perform with professors in special ensembles such as Accademia Filarmonica and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra. Graduates of the OU School of Music Woodwind Department have achieved great success and can be found continuing study in the finest graduate institutions and performing and teaching at universities, elementary and secondary schools and professional performing groups across the country. |
