Associate Professor of Music (Vocal Coaching) Howard Lubin had already won three awards for his original compositions from Broadcast Music, Inc., by age 17. As solo pianist he has been the recipient of prizes from the American Music Scholarship Association, the Kosciuszko Foundation, the Piano Teachers Congress of New York, the Three Rivers International Piano Competition, and the National Society of Arts and Letters. He has appeared as collaborative pianist throughout the United States and Europe. As pianist and vocal coach, Lubin has worked with singers from the world’s most important opera houses. He has given master classes in vocal repertoire in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and has accompanied master classes for Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Renata Scotto, and Evelyn Lear. The master classes he accompanied for Sherrill Milnes were released as a commercial videocassette. During the 1988-89 season Lubin worked as pianist for the Metropolitan Opera Young Artists Development Program, and as faculty member of the American Opera Center at the Juilliard School he coached numerous opera productions and song recitals. Thereafter Lubin was head coach at the Cologne Opera, where he was responsible for the musical preparation of all mainstage opera productions, as well as performing chamber music and recording with members of the Cologne Philharmonic. He has worked as assistant in both concert and opera repertoire for internationally renowned conductors such as James Conlon, Rico Saccani, and Philippe Auguin, and has been a guest artist at the Bregenz Festival in Austria and the Spoleto Festival in Italy.
