Assistant Director of Bands; 12-month appointment; renewable for up to 5 years

Assistant Professor

Masters degree and 3 years of collegiate and/or secondary level teaching experience

ABD or completed doctorate in wind band performance, music education or other appropriate field; demonstrated record of teaching and performance excellence in collegiate and/or secondary school band programs; demonstrated ability to effectively cultivate working relationships with the diverse groups associated with a major university band program including students, faculty, university administration, athletic department officials, alumni, and supporters of the University.

Assist in the teaching, planning, creative process, and administration of the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band; coordinate/direct basketball bands and conduct concert ensembles; team teach in the undergraduate instrumental music education program in areas appropriate to the applicant’s qualifications; teach and work in a team environment with band faculty to develop the artistic, educational, and service components of the band; assist in the administration of the University Bands; assist in recruiting undergraduate music and non-music major students; participate in a team-oriented process for developing and meeting band department goals in relation to the School, College, and University mission and report to the Director of Bands.

The School of Music provides a wide range of opportunities for music and intellectual growth with degrees offered at the Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels. Teach undergraduate and graduate violin; recruit and maintain an outstanding violin studio; coach chamber music, including two endowed graduate string quartets; perform with the Holmberg String Quartet and other members of the faculty; maintain national prominence as a performer/teacher; contribute to the general well-being of the School of Music through committee service.

Teach undergraduate and graduate classes for music majors
in the area of music theory; advise masters’ theses in music theory; engage in scholarly research and publication; help recruit masters’ students in music theory; serve on doctoral committees in the School of Music; and participate in the governance of the School of Music.
